Client: Hamaru

Hamaru is a modern izakaya tucked inside a food park in Quezon City. The food is a mix of crazy and exciting new flavors by chef Niño Laus—a huge breakaway from typical Japanese fare. Imagine deep fried nori pockets that burst with uni in each bite, tuna‑filled tofu pockets topped with puffed rice, and japanese whisky sours.

They commissioned two Obey-inspired murals for their space. Both murals were illustrated and hand-painted.
The woman is a reference to the comedy samurai movie, Zatoichi. This mural is on the balcony, looking over the bar seating area, and can be seen from outside. At night it is half-illuminated by neon, and highlighted by ceiling lights.
This is a street-view cityscape inspired by classic kaiju films. The mural was created with the ceiling drop lights in mind, making them act almost like live city lights to accent the mural. This mural is in the second floor family-seating area.
