The ridged pattern guides the user to the fingerprint scanner and adds grip. In addition the rounded edges create a comfortable and touchable user experience. The USB cable can be pulled out, for flexibility, retracted automatically and hidden with a rubber flap when done to prevent the accumulation of dust.
