Hermann Harry Schmitz called this wonderfully crazy story a fable without 

morals, which surprisingly tells a lot about the relationship between children and 

adults as well as the setting and recognition of limits. First published in 1908, 

the grotesque is now – reinterpreted – an unusual children‘s book.
