Rancid 2000 Tribute
Rancid 2000 came out 20 years ago this month! Because it’s my favourite album of all time I made an illustration of each song to celebrate (and a bunch of fake merch, it’s not real don’t dm me bro). This project was my quarantine downtime activity and I’m so stoked to be finished and able to share it.
Some scans of the at least 30 pages of sketches. Basically listened to the album everyday for two months and doodled along with it. When I had a strong image for about 8-10 songs I got serious and made a goal of getting two more ideas each day
I distinctly remember buying this album when it came out and going on a long car ride with my brother. We took turns listening to it and trading the discman back and forth - both so fucking psyched on how raw and aggressive it was - but also the lyrics and themes were so real. Songs about racism, songs about war, songs about police brutality, songs about greed, songs about love, and songs about being there for each other when you need it. This album is 20 years old and as relevant today as ever.
I did an illustration for all the songs on the album and then played around in photoshop a few days to make realistic looking mock ups of the 7" vinyl collection (also some shirts, patches and pins)
