The Manifest
A Manifest is, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, "to show something clearly, through signs or actions".
The briefing was to write a manifest about the Portuguese city of Aveiro. It was mandatary to use strong and powerful adjectives and make a new approach to the city's positioning.
Aveiro is a small Portuguese city known for its canals, picturesque streets, great traditional food and sandy but wavy beaches.
I wanted to show the city as an escape to all the big European cities and highlight its unique characteristics.
By choosing a vintage scene from a fisherman with its baby, opposing to a modern and summer beach, I wanted to show a peaceful scene because that is what you feel once you arrive there. And the blue bold brush was to remind us the old wooden fishing boats and the wooden shelters.
The English Manifest:
We know of a secret place where time stands still… There you decide the rhythm and speed.
Do not expect to find a sea with the warmest waters. You will only find giant waves that come out of a deep blue ocean.
Don’t look up, you won’t find any skyscrapers. There are colourful wooden shelters that remind us that in the past this village was only a small fishing village. You might try to find the starred restaurants, but you won’t be able to find them either… Instead look for the lighthouse that with its light shows the way to the sailors at night.
And if you decid to go, tell nobody. We want this place to remain a small unexplored corner of the Atlantic ocean.
