Coolangatta Cafe Menus
Coolangatta Cafe is an independent coffee and brunch cafe, based in Wimbledon, that brings together british and australian cuisine in a relaxed and family like atmosphere.

A new design for both in-House and Take Away menus was proposed as a solution to create a more coherent and fresh representation of Coolangatta's brand image. The Take Away menus helped to carry this new and bold brand and the cafe's delicious food to its appreciators homes all over south west london.

The creative process started with finding a way to transport both the colour palette as well as the font found in the brand's logo. The first one was fairly easy due to the high contrast between the dark background and the saturated bold red of the sun's illustration. Secondly, I decided that the best application of Futura (font) in the menus would be for the section titles alongside with the names of the different dishes and the dietary requirements they met. This highlighted the visual hierarchy of the menu's content, allowing for a easier and structured way for Coolangatta's clients to scan through the menu without getting confused or overwhelmed by their many different options, a problem that had arose at times in the past.

With the in-House menu designs, I wanted to give the client two different options that would fulfill the same end goal of maintaining the design coherent whilst adding chalkboard like illustrations that would resemble the chalk typography art decorating Coolangatta Cafe's walls.
#03  Coolangatta In House Menu - thin laminated laser print option
Due to the unpredictable future caused by the recent worldwide pandemic, Coolangatta's owners decided it was time to expand their business from the warmth of their welcoming cafe to the coziness of their client's homes. As stated above, the Take Away menus were created as a practical solution to help soothing out this business expansion. The design maintains the high contrasts found in the logo and in-House menus as well its content hierarchy through the mix of bold weight typography with thin and italic weight ones. Last but not least, I added the quirky statement "Chives make everything better" firstly because it's the cafe's favourite final touch to any of their dishes and secondly to bring the positive and optimist vibe found at Coolangatta to the outside world.
