Amilcar de Castro - Matéria e Luz - Motion

MOTION GRAPHICS, 8'25", 2020

Amilcar de Castro (1920-2002) was a Brazilian artist that that experimented with sculpture, painting and graphic design. Marking the centenary of his birth, Minas Tênis Clube put up the exhibition "Amilcar de Castro - Matéria e Luz" (Amilcar de Castro - Light and Matter), under the sponsorship of Instituto Unimed - BH.

Supporting this exhibition, the Belo Horizonte (BR) based group of architects Micrópolis handled the research and production of a series of videos on the artist. This motion graphics piece was commisioned to me by Micrópolis as one of the videos in the series.
The video is divided in 3 main topics that were developed during the script writing.
The first how the artist and his work relate to the territory of Minas Gerais. It's followed by an explanation on how his sculptures, which are his most recognized area of work, were produced. Lastly, it explains how Amilcar de Castro was influenced and made influence on the Brazilian art scenario.
