In 2018, I was invited to contribute to a group project entitled Luck Of The Draw, in which each participant created their own illustrated interpretation of a card from a traditional deck of playing cards.

The colour palette was limited to black, grey and dark blue, with a minimal amount of accent colour.

I was assigned the Ace Of Clubs.

As a long-time fan of tarot card iconography, I wanted to include imagery relating to my card's tarot equivalent the Ace of Wands, which is traditionally represented as a hand emerging from a cloud, clutching a stout club or sprouting branch. In the background sits a mountain peak surmounted by a castle.
(The blood-thirsty goblin character was my own invention.)

Upon completion, each participant received their own deck, featuring all 52 card designs.
