Double Bill Prints — 002 The Thin Red Line
2021

At the end of 2018, we (Sarah and Mathieu) started collaborating on our ongoing self-initiated film poster project Double Bill Posters. In 2021, we started doublebill.design and released three of our recent designs as limited edition A3 art prints. Made in Belgium with love for the environment. You can order one or more of our prints on our brand-new website and webshop doublebill.design. Unframed prints cost €35 + shipping.

Our second print is based on the film poster we made for The Thin Red Line (Terrence Malick, 1998). This design was one of two in our double bill of the genre anti-war.

In order to convey the poetic and transcendental experience of The Thin Red Line, we incorporated a significant fragment from one of the voice-overs. This, in combination with the still, symbolizes man’s fragile relationship with nature and questions our existence.

Tall grass is a frequent feature in the film and therefore we chose to print 002 The Thin Red Line on paper made from grass clippings (the residual waste from grasslands managed by Natuurpunt, an independent Flemish organization responsible for protecting vulnerable and endangered nature). The paper has visible speckles and grains, making each print unique. Printed sustainably in offset CMYK by zwartopwit.

Limited to an edition of 30.
