A poster I created after watching ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ for the first time. The challenge behind this poster was to try and compose it in a way where it could summarize the entire movie at a glance. So all the important elements are there, the moths, the lamb, the central characters, etc, but I also think where they are in relation to each other is important. The lamb, Hannibal Lecter, and Buffalo Bill loom over Clarice, with the lamb as the largest as her deepest anxiety. I also wanted to pay homage to the visuals of the original movie poster with Lecter and Buffalo Bill’s section in the middle. While in the original poster, Bill’s symbol of the moth covers the woman’s mouth to represent their ‘silencing’ at his hands, here I wanted it to represent how Bill is the secret Lecter refuses to give away. Bill facing away from the front in contrast to the rest of the characters further emphasizes the mystery of his identity.
