CREATE WITH JOY
ADOBE MAX 2021
#AdobePartner #AdobeInsider
We connected to our childhood sense of joy and came together to create a composition full of characters that reignited our love for creating. We directly interacted with each others concepts and imagery, further exploring ways of building a shared narrative.
Our Creative Process
Adobe products used: Photoshop, Photoshop for iPad, and Lightroom

Together we made one image to celebrate creating with joy. We had the common theme of space exploration and used dynamic characters and poses to bring our composition together. Our team was made up of three photographers (Patt, Jordan, Jongwoo) and three illustrators (Samuel, Jappy, Anna). Our photographers contributed the base image, made up of a background and our main subjects. The concept behind the photography was to encourage the illustrators to add imaginative elements, and explore ways of telling a story.
Patt, Jordan and Jongwoo gave our illustrators two composition options:
Our illustrators worked together, Jappy suggesting ways to split the composition, for each of us to focus on. Samuel suggested moving the composition off the canvas, for more breathing room and space to illustrate in. Anna suggested illustrating smaller elements that we can include all over the composition, to tie it all together
Our illustrators drew on top and behind the photos, working together in various sections, making sure the overall composition flows into one another.

We went through various stages of the composition, and decided on a colour scheme (of pink, blue and yellow) to unite our different styles and content.
We wanted our illustrated characters to interact with each other, as well as respond to the photographs created. It was important everyone's elements were celebrated and included.

We had a lot of fun adding objects around the composition, swapping motifs and drawing each others items in our own styles!

About The Creators
This project was created by Anna Johnstone, Jappy Agoncillo, Jongwoo Kim, Jordan Turner, Patt Bosen & Samuel Beatty. #AdobePartner

There is no limit to joy, I’ve loved looking up into the sky since I was young and I always raise my head when I walk down the street. the sky guides us back to our old memories and makes us feel joy.

Bio: Jongwoo is a Street photographer based in Seoul. He captures stories that usually happens on the streets and always walks on the street, never stops.

Creating With Joy inspired my love for wanderlust and creating without limitations. The idea of exploring endless possibilities brought about the concept of being an enemy of gravity and leaning in to my childhood imagination of always wanting to time travel and explore the undiscovered.

Bio: Patrik Bosen also know as by his lifestyle blog Perks Of Patt, is a Sydney-based content creator, photographer & creative director with a focus on creating holistic, creatively charged content to spread inspiration surrounding adversity, mental health and self expression.

As a child, my form of escapism was through the beast of imagination and creativity. I created a fantasy world where I could exist without inhibitions. There, I'd dress up and become whoever I wanted to be. The joy I felt in those moments was life changing. I had no other option but to continuously make room for it wherever I went, moulding and growing that beast to what it is today: an infinite amount of joy.

Bio: Jordan Watson Turner is the creator and face behind MR TURNER. Jordan also part-owns and manages his iconic family’s business Gertrude & Alice Bookstore in Bondi Beach – named in the top 10 bookstores in the world by National Geographic. Within MR TURNER, Jordan is dedicated to creating and sharing trends, personal style, and experiences through mixed multimedia and poetic writing. His aim is to continuously contribute beautiful, game-changing content as he shares the beauty of the world through his work, and inspire his audience in the power of style and fashion.

Creating With Joy is about finding that inner spark and reconnecting with my childhood sense of freedom to create, just for fun. Storytelling allows me to explore complexities of my identity, as well as celebrate smaller moments of comfort; discovering your authentic self, and finding ways to express yourself!

Bio: Samuel Luke Beatty is an artist who works across traditional and digital illustration, creating prints, artist books, and embroidery works. His practice uses graphic narratives and autobiographical storytelling to explore intimate realities of being transgender. His comics share vulnerabilities about trans identity and sexuality, childhood memories, of gender, socialisation, and navigating the world as a trans person. His work offers alternate forms of queer and trans representation to other gender explorers on similar journeys. Samuel currently lives and works in Sydney, on Bidjigal Land, NSW (Australia)

Creating with joy means to me to let my imagination run wild and free. When I was a child I used to look out the window and imagine creatures coming out of the forest and clouds and this is something that stays with me today. When I saw what the guys put together with their photographic imagery I instantly saw one of my creatures coming up out of the clouds to play with JT and I went from there~

Bio: Anna Johnstone aka ‘Yoii’ is a multi platform artist based in Wellington, New Zealand. Her creative practise runs across toy design, murals, branding, illustration and recently she has become co-owner of a local Tattoo studio and enjoys adding her character based artwork to peoples skin.

Creating with Joy pushed me to revisit why I created things in the first place: pure imagination. Remembering my childhood, this was sparked by the cartoons I loved watching as a kid. I really took to all the mischief they get up to, and just the endless possibility the medium of art and illustration showed.

Bio: Jappy Agoncillo is an illustrator and muralist from Manila, Philippines. His love for cartoons, skateboarding, and comic books paved the way for a life trying to create these things himself. Originally planning to pursue a career as a lawyer, his love for the arts took hold as he began working on commissions in university. Upon graduating, he pursued an art career with no hesitation. He personally advocates for the growth of the freelance creative industry in his home country and to remove the stigma of being a creative freelancer in a developing country. He hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions relentlessly in a sustainable, practical and growth oriented manner.
