Islam is a minority religion in Nepal. Only 4,4% of a total population about 28 million people. Muslim population isn't only a minority in numbers, but also in social aspects such as economics and politics. And of course it's a religious minority with Hinduism as a state religion of Nepal. Almost all of them living in Terai region near Indian border.
Overwhelming majority of the Muslims in this area are poor and landless. Their political under-representation and negligible presence within the job market is in keeping with the broader marginalisation of the Madhesi population of which they are a part.
These shots were made during Ramadan food distribution by Islamic Relief Worldwide NGO. That is connected to special diet and fasting during this holy month for all the muslims all over the world.
