The purpose of the following challenges was to develop technical skills in Adobe Illustrator by reconstructing a series of Alexander Girard's multimedia artwork as vector files.
Creating Promotional Materials for an Earth Day Event
CHOOSING AND COMBINING TYPEFACES
This challenge centered on making font choices — how to select typefaces that communicate through their aesthetics, and how to combine them with other typefaces to achieve tone, hierarchy, and contrast.
COLOR, FORMS, AND IMAGES
Without using any typography, the challenge was to research, select, and combine images as well as add color and shapes to create original artwork that communicates a circus-themed Earth Day event. Created in Adobe Photoshop via layering cutouts, images, and illustrator graphics, the challenge required that one element be kept consistent between the 3 compositions — as was done with the green cotton candy.
DESIGN WITH TYPE, COLOR, AND IMAGES
Combining typography with images, color, and forms, this outdoor display banner was created while keeping in mind that the design would be separated by the light pole and split into two banners.
