BROCKA, BERNAL & THE CITY
Brocka, Bernal & the City features the life and work of National Artists for Film Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal in an exhibit that recaptures the Avenida strip of Cinemas in its golden days.

Having seen the artworks that I created during my spare time and posted on my Instagram page (@sketchosero), the Director of the Center for Campus Arts asked me to contribute a few portraits of the actors that appeared in Brocka’s and Bernal’s films. The artworks were installed along one of the "alleyways" inside the exhibit.

The high-contrast illustration style I used draws inspiration from Andy Warhol's screen-printed pop art portraits and the stenciled street art.
From left to right: Philip Salvador, Vilma Santos, Christopher de Leon (First Row); Giina Alajar, Cherie Gil, Hilda Koronel (Second Row); Bembol Roco, Nora Aunor, Orestes Ojeda (Third Row).
Brocka, Bernal, and the City: An exhibition on the life and works of National Artists for Cinema Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal, was curated by Architect Gerry Torres of Benilde's Center for Campus Arts in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. The exhibit, which ran from January 25 to July 27, 2019, was part of Benilde’s 30th Anniversary celebrations and the College’s contribution to the commemoration of 2019 as the 100th year of Philippine cinema.

The artworks appeared alongside the rest of the exhibit in the review of UP Film Institute's Pelikula Journal vol. 5 (2020).
