Perth Glory Rebrand Concept

Perth Glory Football Club was formed in 1995 to represent Western Australia in the now-defunct National Soccer League competition. Following the dissolvement of the NSL, the Glory were one of three existing clubs to receive entry into the A-League competition, where they have competed in since 2005. The Glory have a proud history, including two NSL Championships, three NSL Premierships and one A-League Premiership, as well as having appeared in the AFC Champions League.

This project is a rebranding concept for the club, who have been using their current logo & brand since 2009, and looks at the club's past and present to establish its image for the future.

CREST EVOLUTION
The concept behind the new crest is to combine the club's well established existing brand with the nostalgia of the club's heyday during the NSL. The Glory have not won a championship since the A-League commenced in 2005, so the nostalgia of success, as well as the club's alignment with fashion forward sportswear brands such as Kappa and Umbro during this era, has led to the local sentiment and association towards the original branding being stronger than the current.

The proposed logo concept utilises the existing elements of the sunburst football on the the "west" side of the shield element, whilst reintroducing the sunburst from the original crest with alternating peaks, as well as a modern collegiate style font with similar glyph characteristics as the original logo.

KIT CONCEPT
This kit design pays homage to the club's late 90s/early 00s kits, produced by Kappa, which featured an off-centre duo-tone white and orange panel on a primarily purple base with orange trims; as well as an inversed away kit that stayed true to the club's colourway. Keeping with the modern theme, this panel element has been centred on these kits, with a halftone hexagon pattern breaking up the sponsor spacing, and featuring as a fabric texture at the base of the jerseys and along the sleeves - an element true to Macron's approach to football kit design, utilising complex textures in unison with classic elements.
