Final Piece
Final Major Project for my BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design

The idea behind this piece was to show the smaller aspects which create a bigger picture. With the theme of Flotsam and Jetsam in mind, I photographed textures and objects both in-land and at the seaside - Whitby. Some textures I modified the colours of in Photoshop. I wanted to create what would resemble a seaside scene from a distance, but upon close inspection would show that it was built up from many different photographs.
I was particularly inspired by collaged photography by artists such as David Hockney. I was intrigued by how he photographed many small areas of a scene and then re-assembled it with numerous photographs.

I am pleased with this piece, and I still consider it to be one of my best pieces of work. It helped me to realise that I enjoy expressing and working with detail, and it greatly improved my knowledge of Photoshop.
Exhibition
My exhibition pieces included a kimono-inspired garment, my flotsam and jetsam final piece and four flipbooks - these were photographs of typical seaside scenes: seagulls, waves and sandcastles.
