Traditional Printmaking - collagraphy

Collagraphy is a printmaking technique where materials are assembled onto a printing plate to create textures and patterns. In this project, I created a collagraphy of a snake using sandpaper and other materials. The sandpaper created a rough texture resembling scales, while other materials like fabric and cardboard were used to create varying patterns and textures.

To create the print, ink was applied to the plate and then wiped off, leaving ink in the grooves and textures created by the materials. The plate was then pressed under printing press onto paper, transferring the ink and creating the final print.

The result is a striking negative image of a snake with intricate textures and patterns.
