Kumikos
Generative DesigN PROJECT
"Kumiko" is a traditional Japanese woodworking technique where wooden pieces are assembled without using nails.
I played with repetition effects of pattern and kaleidoscope to create symmetries, because in reality, the art of kumiko relies on symmetry. If the symmetry is not perfect, then the pieces cannot fit together.
For this video, I used pattern and typography as the main elements :
Pattern: Kumiko - I tried to animate it in various ways to have beautiful visuals that sequence and remain coherent.
Typography: "Kumiko" at the beginning to announce that the video is about kumikos and, "Japanese Kumiko Pattern" at the end of the video.
In closing the video, I linked several different kumiko patterns to introduce some of the most famous ones that exist.
