To start, let me tell you that this art was developed for a modern fantasy story written in a fictional book by a fictional author. So don't waste your time looking for this book out there, ok.
Anyway, this is a personal project for which I sought a mystical and magical aspect that could still appear simple and kinda childish.
Here is the first draft of the lettering and composition, which ended up remaining basically the same until the end.
I decided to finalize the line art manually with ink, in order to preserve as much as possible a rustic look and the brush textures.
The final adjustments to the layout were made digitally, as well as the painting, for which I sought a vibrant palette in primary colors, giving it a fantastical and circus-like appearance, yet with a melancholic atmosphere.
The finishing touch was the lettering, evoking latin american sign painting, which counterbalances the fantasy tone, situating the book's story in a modern universe.
