This is how the distant shots of the crowds in Mulan 2 were created. I modeled with facial blendshapes, rigged and toon-shaded and all the variations of wedding guests - heads, garment variations, colors and props were swapped out to give the illusion that a huge crowd was modeled/animated then toon-shaded to match the animation of the close ups of the crowds that were hand animated.
