Golden Hour Visions: Liam Robertson
For this project class assignment, I was tasked with taking a few shots shortly after sunrise or before sunset, the Golden Hour. Through my experience shooting this assignment, I learned a bit about the golden hour and shooting in its light. For example, most of the photos I took were shot in the direction of the sun. This of course made everything in front of them very backlit with the sun so low, being almost directly behind them. As such the subjects I shot are mostly dark silhouettes. I wouldn’t say this is a bad thing, however, and was mostly a conscious choice, choosing exposure to the sun or sky and warm light on the clouds.

There were some challenges in this exercise, however. One was the weather only allowing shooting on a few days. Additionally living and shooting in a built-up area meant that there were often too many barriers between my camera and the sun or direct sunlight. Many of the areas I walked were covered in shade and didn’t at all contain any Golden Hour light. As such I find the correct location is also crucial.
