Deconstruction_Towards Zero Waste and a Sustainable NZ

This project focussed on laying out information about Deconstruction of housing in Christchurch, New Zealand, in an accessible and interesting way.

After the devastating 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, there were masses of houses left to be demolished. Unfortunately, some materials of these houses would go to waste in the process, and be left in landfills to slowly break down.

Deconstruction is the process of recovering and recycling materials which can be reused in innovative and sustainable ways, and take the pressure off over-full landfills. This process has taken off in the States, but is slowly being realised in New Zealand, and could be the answer to zero waste.

I used Rekindle (http://www.rekindle.org.nz) as my precedent, as this innovative enterprise 'enables the diversion of reuseable resources from waste, via design, creativity and craftmanship,' in Christchurch City.

By laying out information and date about Deconstruction in a simple and intereasting way, this project hopes to spread the word about the process and get more companies and businesses involved around New Zealand.
