ABOUT BUILDING DESIGN CHALLENG CONCEPT
ABOUT
Zircon Pool is situated on the beautiful Saint Maarten Island in the Caribbean. The owners have requested the development of a zone in front of the villa that includes a swimming pool and lounge area that is bathed in tropical sun, while also preserving the breathtaking view of the ocean. Additionally, we need to reorganize the existing entry ramp to the villa and ensure it complies with the local norms and boundary limits.
BUILDING
The Villa is situated on a hill and boasts a stunning view of the ocean. The hill slope is divided by stone walls that reinforce it. The driveway leading up to the house is a wide concrete ramp, but can only fit two cars at most. One issue with the ramp is that its footprint extends beyond the boundary limits.
DESIGN CHALLENGE
It was necessary to cut and arrange the ramp that extended beyond the boundary limits to comply with the local norms approval. Additionally, design four car places were required along with a clear path to the villa entrance and a possible turn around for cars. Another task was to build a swimming pool with a launge on the hill in front of the villa. We analyzed several solutions, from console to column structure, and finally created a mixed version of all options which produced the best result.
CONCEPT
The pool area has three functional zones. The swimming pool has a sunbed platform and lounges on both sides. Under the right lounge platform, there is a pool pump room. Next to the main pool is a low-water pool with an outdoor shower close to the villa facade. Finally, there is a dining area with a BBQ. The last two zones are covered with a modern minimalistic pergola as a shaded place.
A motif that mimics the shape of villa arches was chosen for the main facade, which was developed as the main pool stilobate. Palm tree planters are placed on both sides of the pool facade. The left side planter is designed as a console mass to give the facade composition an accent and tectonics. The right side is pushed back and serves as the connector with a ramp facade covered with wooden battens.
