A fresh take on 90-year tradition

For over nine decades, The Art Directors Club (ADC) has published an annual compendium of the year's best work in the fields of advertising, design, illustration, photography, and nowadays, motion graphics and interactive. During the ADC 92nd Annual Awards, there was no longer a budget to publish a print book – nor anyone who wanted to publish it for us.

However, we did have a couple of ADC Members who were willing to contribute their time and talents in creating the Club's first all-digital Annual – to show that we've adapted to the way people want to consume content today.

Rather than simply taking a static design and making it move, I saw this project as an opportunity to do an app the way it should be done: starting with motion design.

I found a very talented Motion Designer from Google – Monica Eunji Kim – and worked with her and Brazilian development studio the goodfellas to produce the complete ADC Annual 92 for iPad, which contained an impressive presentation of the year's Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit winners – plus, a ton of bonus footage that you just can't get in a printed book.

Special thanks to everyone involved, and the ADC Awards team (especially Meredith Feir) for the 8 months of labor on this project.

To drive more downloads during this drastic change in the Club's tradition, I produced a special edition ADC iPad Case in collaboration with DODOcase, designed by ADC Young Gun Pete Rossi of RM&CO. The iPad Case was a hit among the creative community – offering a tangible gift to match the digital Annual.
