Magpies Cider | Hatch Brand Opus Brief (Shortlisted)
The Brand Opus: Hatch brief challenged us to design our own Cider brand in order to create a new, fun, and interesting identity for cider. My brand showcases these values through the Magpie. Magpies are mischievous and social birds, they are often seen as symbols of luck (good or bad). This became immortalised in the famous poem, “One for sorrow, Two for Joy…” proving that Magpies are always best in pairs.

So share a can with a friend to bring them some joy and always be cheeky!
The Magpies logo is inspired by the familiar traditional coat of arms used by many beer & cider brands, but in a fun, retro style that has become popular with upmarket drink brands
such as Vault City or Starbucks. 

The logo is centred around two cheeky Magpies which references the tag line ‘Two for Joy’ as they play together.

The star mark represent Magpies love of shiny objects.
Cloudy Mischief – Our stunning rustic Cloudy Apple Cider inspired by the iridescent sheen on a Magpies wing.

Cheeky Fruity – Our very fruity Apple Cider mixed with golden Tropical Fruit, inspired by the line ‘Six for Gold’ in the Magpie poem, to create a fun and cheeky cider.

Roughish Rosé – Our sweet Rosé Cider made from Pink Lady’s mixed with fresh grapes for a light classical taste, inspired by the play ‘The Thieving Magpie’.
The posters are simple, bright and bold, and they mainly focus on the 2 Magpies interactions with both each other and the can.

The can is also placed at a slightly different angle each time to give the impression that they are playing and messing around with it.
Magpies Cider believes that drinking should be fun, safe and social, thus our cans come in a two-pack.

So grab a friend and share the joy!
Photographic posters do not feature the magpies, instead they feature the background, which should be outside in the sun on grass or at a festival so the consumer imagines themselves with the cider.
The Magpies brand, in addition to the three central flavours, could also offer Limited
Edition Holiday flavours, such as the sweet & romantic Sassy Strawberry flavour available only for Valentine’s Day, or Tricky Toffee for Halloween!

Other Limited Edition Holiday flavours could include Merry Cranberry for Christmas, or Playful Peach for Easter.
Limited Edition poster have arched text to emphasise their importance.
