A cover re-design of The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. Liesel, the protagonist, would steal books to escape her bleak reality during the times of the Holocaust.
Problem: The old cover did not give proper insight into the story—Liesel’s desire to find happiness and sanity.
Solution: Illustration and typography merge to show Liesel “hiding” behind the book pages. Illustrations are made from cut pieces of newspaper and book pages.
