3D Composite - Kitty Kat Borg Attack

Kitty Kay Borg Attack

So my friends over at Eccentric Sculptures and Props came up with a fantastically hilarious idea that I just had to be a part of. They wanted to make a huge 24'x8' vinyl wall wrap to install for an upcoming project. We all sat down and came up with a pretty interesting production idea.

We fabricated a large wooden box, about 2.5' cubed, stapled some black carpet to the outside and then begin the long arduous process of gently tossing cats and photographing them. We assembled a collection of about 10 or so cats from friends, who were more than happy to contribute their furry friends for such a funny project.

From there, another artist and I began masking out about 200 images of cats of all sizes.

I then went into 3D and crafted up a borg cube and rendered out a base from a one-point perspective. I then composited in the cats. Thankfully, the Borg cube matched up with the boxes we masked out, so the cats fit purrrfectly.

I dropped in a few laser beam and spark effects, added some green cast and some shadow. Composited a nice nebula background and voila! Kitty Kat Borg Attack.

The final print file was setup at 72 DPI and was about 1.61 GB in size for the final print, which took more than 12 hours to produce and about 4 hours to install.
