"Rangoli" is the name given to the Folk artwork made (mostly on floors, in front of entrances of the household) in rural India during the festive seasons or important family functions like marriage etc. It is known for its intricate yet simple patterns and symmetry and use of bold colours to give a striking finish. The material used is mostly rice flour mixed with vegetable colours. Sometimes wheat flour, lime, brick powder or grounded lentils are also seen to be used. The Rangolis are supposed to bring good luck and attract good spirits to the household and its dwellers.
