Background
The following document was prepared for the Joint Oversight Board (JOB) meetings in February 2015 between the University of Calgary and the State of Qatar. The text was adapted from a report written by various department leaders around the university by both myself and a small team of administrative staff to function as a PR document that could be distributed to both internal and external stakeholders.
Challenges
The main challenge working on this document was time. I was provided with less than 3 weeks to rewrite the content, design the layout and arrange the production of the publication. Working within that type of timeframe is not uncommon in my role with the University of Calgary in Qatar, however this was particularly challenging due to both the length of the publication (50 pages) and current staffing challenges.
Design-wise the die cut offered a fresh challenge. As I am not an illustrator, I had to adapt a preexisting pattern in our design assets to fit the size and needs of a die cut front cover. The idea behind this was to provide an eye into the publication while adding an arabesque style to the publication.
