Light is very precious. Like many things, you only realise how valuable it is once it’s gone. Some people fall into deep depressions. My installations are a worship of the returning light. I want to create a place for people to come in their darkest hour, a place for them to refuel on the comforting warmth and the feeling of hope, which light can give us. My works always consist of several (sometimes up to hundreds of) individual lamps, a visualisation of the days, often arranged like paths that guide you through the installation. With this particular work, people would be able to wander around the lights freely and settle down to sit in one of the pools of light for a couple of minutes.

 

The raised fist (also known as the clenched fist) is a symbol of solidarity and support. It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance. The cast of the hand forms the sign for  the letter “S”. In combination with a nod of the head it means “yes”. My mom has given us endless strength and support and has raised us to become very positive and broad-minded people. Hands are a universal way of communicating with people. I love working with hands. They have incredible power, both visually and metaphorically and are giving me new ideas for projects every day, simply by being attached to my arms.
