Park of the Monsters (Bomarzo's Sacred Grove)

The Sacredo Grove, colloquially called Park of the Monsters (Parco dei Mostri in Italian), also named Garden of Bomarzo, is a Manieristic monumental complex located in Bomarzo, in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio, Italy.

The gardens were created during the 16th century. They are composed out of a wood located at the bottom of a valley beneath the castle of Orsini, and populated by sculptures and small buildings among the natural vegetation.

Here some photos of this beautiful place
The publishing house "Scienze e Lettere" gave me the opportunity to illustrate a fantastic story where 2 little children have adventures and misadventures with the strange stone figures that inhabit the grove.

I was so excited, because this was my first serious job as illustrator.  Here are some sketches:

The publishing house wants handmade drawing so i focused myself on a simple style with bright colors.

The mood that i wanted to reproduce is the magic experience,
that you can try and feel when you visit the grove.

Basically i used watercolours, ecolines, coloured pencils, pens and ink.
Here are some drawing scan, defined in colors and lights with Photoshop
And this is the finished work!
I realized also the graphic project of the whole book, from the inner pages to the cover.
I know i could do everything much better, but im very proud of it!
