I first started making the trees for the tessellation. I did this by using two separate layers. One layer for the Tree tops, and another for the Tree trunks. The tree tops consisted of rounded rectangle tool. I made a large green rounded rectangle, with smaller light green rounded rectangles inside. The tree trunks were made using the pen tool and the swirl tool. First I shaped out the trunk of the tree with pen tool curving the lines inward. I colored the tree in brown and added black swirls for texture. Next I used the Pen tool again to add roots, by drawing a couple of curves at the bottom of the tree. Then making smaller curves on top of those curves.
Next I started making the tree pattern by connecting the trees together with either the roots or the tree tops, I continued this from the top to the bottom of the page. I grouped this pattern and used the Alt-copy command to copy the pattern several times across the page. I also added a background behind the tree’s to get rid of any blank space. I made a square scaled it to the size of the page and used the foliage swatch as a fill, after throwing it behind the trees. I made a new layer called polygons to start the tessellations. I hid the trees layer and on the new layer made octagons in a 2x3 pattern with a 2 point black stroke. I then made a new layer, called it Tessa 2, and threw the Trees and polygon layers into the Tessa 2 layer having the polygons layer on top of the trees layer.
After that I needed an opposing pattern to complete the tessellation. I made another master layer and called it Tessa 1. Keeping with the nature theme I decided to use the night sky. To do this I made black diamonds around the octagons. Inside the black diamonds I added several yellow triangles. Finishing the project I made two layers; a background layer and an Author Title layer. The background layer is just a basic white background I threw behind all layers to make sure there is no blank space. The Author Title layer is my name and the title of the tessellation in size 14 Impact font.
