This is a major revamp of a logo for my design company. I wanted to create a brand new font using Fontographer initially. The challenge was set! I had to learn all about font creation using a piece of software not currently supported. I created not only all the word keys but did the numbers and most of the key characters too.

The design icon was done in illustrator and photoshop. This is an initial sketch version. I have allowed it to sit around for a bit to contemplate it and feel now it's ready to be reproduced in full high resolution.

Below are some of the ideas in the creative process:
The typeface is completed. Kurning and scales still require final tweaking.
Doodling with ideas: this was about linking ideas and giving a sense of movement.
The idea of the swirl appears: a wave, a spiral, an energy. I like the fact that it suggests reflection and contemplation but has energy and movement, a force to be reckoned with!
Here I'm trying out different icon orientations to see how it affects the design. I notice the swirl looks like the 'd' of Designia and so the final version came about. The semiotic content of the icon is precisely what I was looking for: movement, energy, reflection, organic, natural and repesentative of the first letter of the company.
