Reinventing Linen

Participating Artist & Exhibition Design

Northern Ireland has a unique textile heritage which has played a central part in the psyche of the people of the region.  ‘Re-inventing Linen’ examined new definitions of our notions of the fabric.  A collaboration with textile specialists from INTERFACE Centre for Research at the University of Ulster and experts in textile design, retail and manufacture, it resulted in a number of exhibitions in Ireland and the U.S.

The exhibition combined text and textiles to pay homage to local poet Michael Longley and the images of linen workers invoked in verses of his poem, ‘The Linen Industry’. I designed a number of large scale digital ikat works which were further embellished with laser engraving, hand printing and embroidery.
