"How Ahab met Moby"
This project required the outcome to be a 3D piece. Being an illustrator, this can be hard when your desired materials are a pen and paper.
Whilst reading through Moby Dick, I came across a piece of dialogue from Captain Ahab describing his first encounter with Moby, and the loss of his leg due to the meeting. This is where I began to extract my inspiration from.
I began to look into older forms of storytelling, mainly puppetry. Puppetry has be used for hundreds of years as an aid to story telling.
The piece below is screenshots of a video piece I created using my own version of how Ahab met Moby and what set the storyline of Moby Dick in motion.
Each shadow puppet was cut by hand.
I chose a black and white setting as I feel this added to the sinister story.
