Buy it All, Eat it All
solo exhibition of A.Todorovic in Dio Horia gallery, Mykonos island, Greece
25.8.2017-20.9.2017
Press release
DIO HORIA presents a solo exhibition of Serbian artist, Aleksandar Todorovic. The title of the show “Buy it All, Eat It All” acts as an ironic catchphrase that best depicts the ever growing consuming-obsessed era. It can be perceived as an inverse mantra, that shouts for awareness and criticism through its conceptual repetition.
Todorovic brings complex, dystopian narratives to the foreground with a satirical mood and a wry wit. These narratives do not come from an inaccessible future but they highlight problematic conditions of current times. In his subject matter, “sacred” personages from the fast-moving consumed goods – food and entertainment – alongside Christian Orthodox saints who are also part of the consumption industry, occupy a central role.
His work blends together references of Byzantine iconography and editorial cartoons. The combination of these miscellaneous elements, highlights his craftsmanship and brings to the fore his humorous momentum.
ALEKSANDAR TODOROVIC (b. 1982, in Belgrade, Serbia) is painting socially and politically inspired art. He has presented his work in many solo and group exhibitions in Serbia, Greece, USA, UK, France and Austria. In 2014, he was selected as one of the artists in the Thames & Hudson book “100 painters of tomorrow”.
