I designed this book cover for Penguin Book's annual book cover competition. The book is the humorous coming-of-age story "The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4" by Sue Townsend. As it is a book for a middle school audience, I sought to use a style that felt appropriate for the age group and enabled the book to not feel to childish or adult, as well as appealing to both a male and female audience. To achieve this, I created the cover to appear like a typical school diary that Adrian himself had written and drawn on.
