Ruy, table lamp

Design Name:
Ruy

Primary Function:
Table Lamp

Inspiration:
Ruy was inspired by colors, joy and architecture of the city's buildings. People like to have fun and party, usually at friend’s meetings, on the streets, weddings and so on. One of the most important elements of these friends and family gatherings is the spotlight with the lights that gives colors to the dance floor. And when people meet in the streets to drink in the bars, the lights of cars and buildings make all the difference in the night. Ruy is a small representative of these lights.

Unique Properties / Project Description:
Ruy is a table lamp. It can be very colorful around the whole lamp, but can also be manufactured with just one color for those who want something a little more discreet.
The colors give all the joy of the lamp and it is a reminder of the dance floor spotlight. As it is made of carbon steel, it is super resistant, and can be used also in commercial environments as decoration, even though it is small and apparently a fragile piece.

Project Duration and Location:
The project began in October 2017 and was completed in April 2018. It started in Santos SP and was completed in Sao Paulo SP, Brazil.

Production / Realization Technology:
Ruy was produced in 2mm thick carbon steel with an electrostatic paint. The holes are made with a drill and the base is with solid square bars of carbon steel and welded in the box. The colored circles around the lamp are acrylic glued inside. Inside an e27 bulb is used with a 1W power LED bulb.

Specifications / Dimension / Package / Technical Properties:
Width 150mm x Depth 150mm x Height 200mm

Research Abstract:
There were several different spotlight designs to be used as a reference in the project. As well as several city buildings. The study was to create something that had a relationship with the spotlight and architecture.

Challenge:
Since the luminaire is made 100% manual, first, it was used a steel pattern to make the design of the circles in front of the piece, but on the side of the lamp. the idea was not having several perfect holes one next to each other but some random holes to make it more interesting. The most complicated part was using the drill to make holes in the steel board of this prototype. Leave them perfectly positioned and with a great finish.
