I had developed a great relationship with the creatives at Pinwheel, having worked on a few Netflix projects with them, when they asked me to direct this comedy based promo I jumped at it.
Then I found out it would be in Cantonese.
Through the help of translators and much pre-production around scripting, we ended up with a cool little funny film. The main protagonist is an Aussie actor that has found success in Hong Kong over the past 20 years, acting in just about every HK TV show and even had a top 10 rap hit!
We shot in a studio, matching lighting and camera angles from the original film, then composited it all together in Flame. The final effect was pretty seamless - makes it look like I got to direct Brad Pitt. (which I didn't).
