OB/GYN experience design

Inter-disciplinary collaboration between product design students at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the staff and users of the OB/GYN at the Landspítali National University Hospital. A course completed in the spring of 2012 where we learned how to use experience design and inter-disciplinary collaboration in a real life setting.  Students were divided into groups and each group researched three divisions of  the OB/GYN by looking, feeling, learning and listening as well as talking to the departments’ staff and users. Condition of the OB/GYN was examined and researched and experience design was used to improve and reorganize the departments environment and experience for the staff and users. Organization of rooms, wayfinding and atmosphere of the department was examined and improved in an attempt to make the department more open, more intimate and friendly. Evidently only the departments’ enviroment and appearance needed such change since the staff is especially lovely, friendly and helpful in every way. Final results were presented as a big poster to users and guests of the hospital as well as staff and hospital directors in a hallway between the Children’s Hospital and the OB/GYN department. The poster was allowed to hang there for about six months. I worked at reorganizing the rooms of the departments and was the project manager when time came to gather all the information together for the final presentation.
