«The Painted Fox» is my Master's degree illustration and book design project. The tale I chose was written in 1898 by prominent Ukrainian author Ivan Franko. I created a book with 22 illustrations and an additional sticker set with heroes and some vivid words from the tale.
«The Painted Fox» is about a very cunning fox Mykyta, who got in trouble and tried to fool everyone around him and became a king of the forest because he was looking like a strange beast after he had a bath in the blue paint barrel. But as we know, lie tricks never ended successfully. So it happened with Mykyta too. Offended animals killed him in the end.
I think the tale about a lie and total cunning isn’t so childish and fun, so that’s why I decided to add a little bit of horror to this book design. I used rough drawing and a color limitation simple language to create a tense atmosphere and keep some space for enjoying the tale.
