Surf, Sea & Budu.

Towards the end of last year, I was on assignment to shoot about surfing culture story in Malaysia. This is was when only China and Hong Kong was affected by #Covid19. Me and my colleague journalist made the trip after finishing up story in Cameron Highland.
.
There we stayed and meet Malaysia’s pro surfer @didaqtsurf , his friends and his sister @qadejasurf who just turned pro that time.
.
It was supposed to be a light story about how two siblings made in Cherating (Chero) turns pro. Surfing is something I had only seen on TV. Where the ideal scene is either in Australia, Hawaii or Mexico. But Cherating is the best place to start learning to surf.
.
People from all parts of the world the US, Indonesia, Europe come here to learn beginner’s class for surfing. Some will move on once the season is over, some stay and become part of the tighly knit community.
.
The surf school here run by the local boys mostly or also known as the ‘Chero boys’.

The pioneer surfer in Cherating still live here. It all started when traveller from different country invited them to surf back in the 80s.
.
Cherating look far from happening unlike its hayday in the 80s till early 90s. It looked more like a dead town. They used to have tourist come to Cherating for wind surfing. The wind was that good that it entices them to come and play there.
.
The story is yet to be released as the headline now is all about Covid19. I showcase this photo here because we all miss the outdoor and the norms that we used to have. But a ‘new’ normal is coming soon.
.
Hopefully with this ‘new’ normal, it helps us to gradually be back to the normal norms that we used to have. Stay safe! Hope all of you like what I share today.
