Metaphorical Illustration
In this project assignment, I decided to illustrate Kahitna’s song titled soulmate. This song tells a story about a forbidden love. A love that sprouted in a place where it shouldn’t have. A love that can never be fulfilled. Taking a certain section of the song, I illustrated from the lyrics:
Meskipun tlah kau semaikan cinta,
di balik senyuman indah,
tak mungkin menggapaimu,
tuk menjadi pasanganku,
Namun ku yakini cinta,
Kau kekasih hati.
Metaphorically, I portrayed the song as a love story of a peasant and a princess. They met through an accident. The princess stumbled and dropped her basket of freshly picked flowers on the peasant. This illustrates the love being planted (flowers on peasant). Next, the princess gasped and shyly apologizes over the mess she created, yet all the peasant could see was her beauty. Behind her kind smile and wave of goodbye, the peasant stood still in the mists of the crowd that came. He sadly contemplated on the harsh reality. He knew that wish of being with the princess could never come true. Yet he still believed in that impossible dream. He planted the flower that marked the first time he met the princess. The flower that started it all. Day by day, he watered it and planted some more. Finally, he looked at the trail of flowers he created, each day hoping that one day the princess would come, pick the flowers, and meet him again.
