URBAN PARK PAVILION
Cultural Initiatives Center is going to be located in Komorów - city on Warsaw suburbs, an example of Ebenezer Howard's "Garden Cities" urban planning idea realization. Nowadays Komorów is buit-up by historical villas and contemporary single-family houses. Competition brief was about i.a. designing an object functionally flexible, creating a good place for neighbours gathering and preserving existing old trees on a plot (very valuable for Komorów).
Because building would be located on a parkish municipal plot situated in frequently used by inhabitants area, I decided to make a design which could be described not only as a "community center", but also as an "urban park pavilion". Urban park pavilion for Komorów.
I bet on lightness and transparency - glass, concrete and steel - and on movable divisions which link and divide rooms in a way that enable to create various combinations of rooms connections and so on of way of using the building. Form of the building evokes an archetypical shape of an suburban house with a steep roof. Impression of interior spaces is characterized by shapes of, following exterior form, steep ceilings.
