David Pflieger's profile

Community Partnerships and Air Pacific

During his tenure as CEO of Fiji’s national air carrier, Air Pacific, David Pflieger grew the company into an operation with annual revenues of nearly $400 million, and initiated the purchase of a fleet of new Airbus A330 wide-bodied aircraft worth more than $600 million. Fiji’s president, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, has stated his confidence in the new planes’ ability to develop Air Pacific’s already strong operations as a leading tourist carrier in its region. President Nailatikau also expects the company’s new fleet to assist in boosting the national economy.

Although Dave Pflieger left Air Pacific in May 2013 to transition into a position as president and CEO of Silver Airways Corp. in Florida, he maintains a strong interest in the success of commercial air travel in Fiji. Under his leadership, Air Pacific partnered with several organizations that focus on the wellbeing of the people and communities of Fiji.

Among these organizations is FRIEND, or the Foundation of Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development. This award-winning social development group provides outreach programs to increase educational opportunities for young Fijians in need. In addition, Air Pacific established a relationship with the Mamanuca Environment Society with the goal of increasing protections for the natural resources of the Mamanuca Islands area.

The acquisition of the new Airbus planes also signifies Air Pacific’s commitment to its community. The state-of-the-art aircraft will enhance Fiji’s ability to deliver medical and other supplies from abroad to underserved citizens within its borders.
