Hygge 2021 Exhibition

My exhibition "hygge" is about the little things in life that bring joy and comfort.
I used lots of felt and knitting as it has the conations of comfort and warmth. They are also really soft and comforting to touch.
I wanted people to feel comforted when walking round so I gave out cake. As I didn't just want people to look at comforting things, but to feel comforted as well.
There were many interactive elements to my exhibition. I drafted and made this tea set out of blankets. I made it from blankets as they give warmth and are comforting to hold, like tea. People took photos and loved pretending to pour themselves a cup of tea.
The sky at different times of day comforted many people I talked to so I did this set of 3 paintings. people enjoyed touching the pom poms on the sunset piece.
More cake was available here for people to eat while looking round so they could feel comforted. I also had a basket where people left notes after they looked round the exhibition.
This is my survey sculpture, developed from my hygge sketchbook. The balls are colour coded and the amount of each shows how many people stated it comforted them. This piece show the joys of life which are: memories, laughter, pets, walks and family / friends! behind is sets of photography.

Some of the embroidery hoops and textured water lily piece.
The blanket table cloth took over a year to knit. It was a last minute decision to put it in the exhibition but I'm glad I did.
"Grass". In a survey I did the smell of wet grass often comforted people. So i did a hoop of grass made from woollen tassels. I wanted it to be soft to feel and nice to touch. The flowers are from pom poms. The stones are made from felt and buttons.
"memories of Knaresborough". in my survey memories was something that comforted people, so I did this hoop. Each shape has a connation of a memory from visiting Knaresborough growing up. the jumbled composition shows how over time memories can get jumbled but you still get the basic idea of what happened. The colours are bold as the memories have strong emotions attached to them.
"That warm fuzzy heart feeling". This shows what my heart feels like when you see someone your love or when someone is kind. I made the felt in the heart shape. There are neon shapes and swirls coming from the heart shape to show the heart bursting with joy.
"My personality" style inspired by artist Juno Birch. I think when people are brave enough to show themselves to the world it is a beautiful thing. So this is what my personally looks like, I love 50's clothing, flowers, nature and art so I included those symbols on the piece.
"cosy house" is made from paper, tracing paper and led lights. I wanted to create a cosy scene of 2 cups by a fire place. It is inspired by shadow boxes.
"springing into life" photography.
"hygge photography" I used layers of blankets and fairy light to create a cosy feel. i put a slight pink tinge on all photos to make them sit well together
