For the background of the book I decided to use a Circuit board pattern to relate to the idea of androids and robotic life. I also used the image of a Sheep to relate to the main character -Rick Deckard-'s electric Sheep. 

 

For the beige cover I focused on using a brain as the main element of the image as it is what divides a human from a android. I split the brain in half, the red side to represent the human part of a brain and the green the android presence. I thought this related well to some of the main issues the book presents from the idea of Empathy and whether an android is actually the more empathetic being in comparison to a Human. The idea of Real vs. Unreal and the consequences the Empathy box can bring to people as well as relating to the issue of whether mind control is present in the book. 

 

Another thing that is played upon heavily is the idea of intelligence and those that are not so smart, and have a mental deficiency are known as "Chickenheads". They are seen as the lower class citizens and this is often referenced and shown in the book.

 

For the second Cover design I decided to use some other images that will only become relevant having read the book. Again I used the sheep to demonstrate the title and the idea behind Rick's Electric Sheep but I also added an Owl as those were the first things to die from the Radiation dust. 

 

The spider is there to represent the one tortured by the Androids in the story, and finally the toad on the back of the book is to represent the Toad that Deckard comes across at the end of the book, playing on his value of Humanity and the idea of his view on reality.

 

I also added the image of Rick Deckard's gun to represent his status as a bounty hunter.
