HUB | Make Lab, is an artist space channeling creativity by recombining the contemporary and historic qualities of Manila. Alongside the streets of Escolta, you can see the vast arrangement of buildings, restaurants, and interiors that transport you to old Manila.
DESIGN SYSTEM
The design system I made for HUB | Make lab recontextualizes it to the modern period. Emphasizing the concept of “Old Meets New.”
TYPOGRAPHY
For the typographic choice, I used a plain serif font and mixed in Helvetica to offset the typeface to encapsulate modernity with tradition.
Borders are reoccurring motifs that are inspired by the architecture of the First United Building. They allow for a consistent system that is utilized all through the collaterals.
Graphic elements pay homage to the floral motifs used throughout the early Filipino advertisements in the 1900s. The elements are laid out symmetrically, similar to the art deco movement, but incorporating swashes inspired by Okir.
