Initially I was interested in looking at presenting distortion of people and photos, I did this through weaving and burning my photos, physically changing them.
I was exploring how found pictures could be woven together and juxtaposed to create new and striking images. I then decided to experiment with burning holes in old, discarded photographs, revealing parts of different photographs I had placed underneath. I wanted to show different layers and create patchwork photos from forgotten people.
I decided to present my final piece on a child’s mobile, as it contrasted the old, damaged and burned photos with the playful and childlike structure used to show discarded photos from another generation.
For this project I found the photos in local antique stores and flea markets, next time it might be interesting to do a photoshoot myself, and then edit and layer the photos and then burn them. I could also try out different sizes of photos as well as different techniques.
