About This Theme
Portfolio Landing Page is a fully responsive WordPress theme built using the Roots Framework. It fully utilizes Bootstrap, integrates Gravatar for easy set-up and uses Font Awesome icons for extra oomph. Keep reading to find out all the goodies available in this user-friendly, single-paged template. The theme was designed by WeGraphics and made available as a PSD. This project was a conversion from PSD to fully-functional WordPress theme.
Dependencies
Since the theme is heavily integrated with Gravatar, it will not function properly without a linked account. The admin e-mail of the account needs to match a registered Gravatar account. As few - or as many - details as the user provides to Gravatar will be reflected on this site.
The Header
The header is comprised of the title and the social media menu. The title is a combination of the site title and tagline, as defined in Settings -> General. The media menu is based on services provided by the user's public. Gravatar profile. On larger displays, these are displayed side-by-side. On smaller screens, they collapse to single lines.
Main Slider
The site's main slider displays any number of set elements and simplifies the more common slider options. Instead of using a plugin or other cumbersome option, I've added a checkbox to the "Edit Media" screen to add the image to the slider. This checkbox is available through bot Media -> Edit and Editor -> Add Media.
The optimal size for a slider image is similar to a Facebook Cover Photo (851px x 319px), although any consistently sized widescreen photos will work. The slider image will automatically resize to 100% width across devices.
The addition of a checkbox simplifies controlling the main slider.
The Intro
The Intro section is the title and content of the Front Page, as set in Settings -> Reading. The title displays as smaller text, while the subheading (page content) displays larger.
Home Boxes
The Home Boxes are controlled by a custom post type in the admin menu. The interface is similar to standard posts and pages, with a few modifications. 1 to 4 boxes can be displayed in this section, and the sizes will be set according to the number of boxes. On extra small and small displays, each box will take up 100% of the width.
Instead of tags, the home boxes have a taxonomy for Font Awesome Tags. This allows the user to control the icons that display next to the box title by specificy which fa-tag to use. There is no support for categories, featured images or custom fields.
Portfolio Slider
The Portfolio Slider area, found in the center of the theme, utilizes the stardard WordPress "Post" menu. Titles are not displayed, but the content is, in an overlay over the main image. The images are custom sizes for the post's featured image. This area will display up to 6 posts at one time, randomly if more than 6 exist.
The images to the left provide extra thumbnail navigation on larger displays. On smaller displays, the main slider image will seamlessly resize to fit 100% of the window.
Contact & Bio
The contact form uses the WordPress commenting system (no extra contact forms to set up) and has been upgraded with AJAX.
The bio box to the right uses the same Title/Tagline set-up as the header. The bio, profile image, phone number and e-mail are pulled from Gravatar. If they are not available, they don't display.
On extra small and small screens, the bio box and contact form become 100% width, with the bio appearing first.
